SUPPORTING LIKKLE SWIMMERS IN JAMAICA

In 2025, Konfidence will be supporting Likkle Swimmers, a UK charity that provides free swimming lessons to children in Jamaica and who will be starting baby and pre-school lessons for the first time this year. To help Likkle Swimmers with this new charity venture, Konfidence are gifting a bundle of Aqua Nappies to get them started.

Facilitating this, is Camilla Colledge, a Likkle Swimmers Trustee, who will be part of a dedicated team that is going out to Jamaica in April to upskill some of the charity’s existing swimming teachers and qualify them as STA international Baby and Pre-school teachers. During the visit Camilla and the team will also organise lifesaving training and a teacher CPD day in Kingston, at the only Olympic pool in Jamaica.

Camilla, also a STA tutor and brand ambassador, said: “Every year Likkle Swimmers sends new and pre loved swimwear to the programme, and to enable us to start teaching the younger age range this year we were in need of 0-4 years swimwear. Having met some of the Konfidence team over the years at the STA conference, it was a natural process for me to enlist their support on this new endeavour, and they are kindly gifting enough swim nappies to help get us started.”

“The Konfidence Aqua Nappies are perfect, not only are they eco-friendly being reusable, but because they feature an adjustable Velcro sash and poppers for babies aged from three months to approx. thirty months, we can adjust the swim nappies on site, and ensure a snug and comfortable fit for every one of the babies and toddlers. Plus, the Aqua Nappies incorporate a triple layer design - a soft outer layer, a recycled PVC middle barrier layer and a soft inner mesh layer – which will provide added security in the pool in case of little accidents!”

“We are all very much looking forward to the 2025 Likkle Swimmers free swimming programme, especially now we have collaborated with Konfidence - and we can’t wait to feedback and share our stories with the team,” confirmed Camilla.

About Likkle Swimmers

Likkle Swimmers was founded by Charlotte Holt in 2017, after a tragic drowning incident in the remote area of Treasure Beach, Jamaica, where Charlotte had spent time with a family she was nannying for. Sadly, the drowning was the father of the young family and was not an isolated incident. Charlotte is a keen swimmer and realised that so few people in the community could swim due to such little safe access to water, and a consequence was the number of lives the village had lost to the ocean. Realising this was a life-saving skill she could offer to the community; she decided to set up the charity and provide access to a local pool.

The purpose of Likkle Swimmers is to provide free swimming lessons in a safe environment. The children not only learn a skill that will save lives, but in doing so will also improve their self-confidence and independence, thereby benefiting the wider community. So far, they have taught over 700 children and adults to swim for free.

The charity is now entering its 8th year (excluding Covid), and is at capacity for lessons for the 4 plus age group, due to the style and size of the pool and the charity founder, Charlotte, with the help of the trustees have been looking at ways to increase their reach, while maintaining great links with the local community. The obvious direction was to begin baby and pre-school lessons, and after a year that also saw Hurricane Beryl tear through Treasure Beach, devasting the community and leaving the swimming pool area a mess in the summer of 2024, Konfidence is looking forward to supporting Likkle Swimmers in 2025, and sharing their lifechanging stories.
